Methylene blue, chloride trihydrate is a stain that is useful in many staining techniques such as Wright’s stain, Jenner’s stain, Mallory’s phloxine-methylene blue stain, and Levin & Black’s stain. Methylene blue can also be used to distinguish between living and non-living cells since it is not able to penetrate living cells.
